Michael Burgett from Ohio
2013 Ford F-150
Greetings,
I spent more than a month researching tonneau covers for my 2013 F150. I chose Peragon for several reasons, they are made in the USA, they don’t block the drivers view when retracted, they are reasonably priced, they are powder coated so the paint won’t start flaking after a year, the online documentation and videos where straight forward and written for my specific truck, and finally because they are a hard cover which can deter would be thieves from reaching into the bed. I realized that this product required the bed of the truck to be drilled in four locations, but with the proper rust preventative coating, I felt this was a small inconvenience for all of the advantages I would receive from installing the cover.
It only took my wife and I two hours to install it onto my truck. The fit was perfect and the instructions/videos were simple to follow. There were no surprises! I made sure the frame was squared up, inserted the panels, and viola it works like a charm. Due to an obstruction behind the bed rail flange, I did have to adjust the location of the front mounting brackets by an inch so that the bolt and nut would fit correctly. Your design easily allowed for this adjustment to be made without any unnecessary complications! The final fit is perfect, no adjustments were required! It was a bit stiff to begin with, so as your instructions suggested, I applied silicone lubrication to the roller bearings and the unit works perfectly. I sprayed some water on it to test for leaks and I could not have been more impressed! There were some drips on the sides near the tailgate, but it was not enough to damage any cargo that could have been there. I dried the cover and applied some wax and it just looks awesome. I kid you not, I immediately received compliments from my neighbors on how cool the cover looked on the truck. I was curious if the unit would make any noise at highway speeds, so we headed down the highway at 70mph with the windows down. The panels were “fluttering” a bit, but they were not making any sound, it was dead quiet. I do recommend the double deadbolt, it adds strength and security to both sides of the cover. I also opted for the stainless steel hardware. This adds durability and rust prevention, things I just don’t want to have to worry about in the future. Be sure to follow their advice and use a lubricant on the SS bolts to prevent any issues during assembly.
I am writing this review 20 days after installation and I had excited to report that the cover is working perfectly. The water seal has improved drastically with only a little tiny bit of water at the tailgate. (I’m in Ohio and it has rained for weeks here). I have received multiple compliments from curious onlookers along with multiple request to see the cover open and close. Most just say “Awe that is cool!”
I am quite pleased with the amount of space the collapsed cover occupies. My bed is the shorter 6.5’ bed and I have already had to haul some bigger items with the cover open. I had plenty of room and the cover made no noise as I drove around with it open.
Thank you Peragon for a great product!
