What's the best tonneau cover for a Sierra 1500?

Sierra 1500 buyers pay for the Denali grille and the AT4 lift, and most of them take the crew cab with the 5'8" bed. The best tonneau cover for a Sierra 1500 has to look like it came from the factory and still earn its keep on a weekend run to the lake. If the bed opens every day, that's the Landmark retractable: low profile, retracts into the bed, rear view intact, off in 30 seconds with the quick-release. It's also the only cover we make for the 8-foot Sierra bed.

If you stack gear on top, the Tectonic hard tri-fold carries 250 pounds on top as a Sport, 500 as a Pro or Max and fits 2014 and newer trucks.

Neither fits the CarbonPro bed. A soft cover gets cut and won't lock. Buy aluminum once.

Landmark is right for your Sierra 1500 if you

  • Want a clean, low-profile look that keeps the truck sharp
  • Open the bed every day and want fast access, or the whole cover off in seconds
  • Want key-locking security you can count on
  • Run the 8-foot Sierra bed, or a 2013 or older truck

Tectonic is right for your Sierra 1500 if you

  • Want total access to the entire bed at any moment
  • Pack the bed full and need room to carry cargo on top
  • Need the bed sealed and dry
  • Drive a 2014 or newer Sierra 1500 and stand on the cover to reach the cab end

Sierra 1500 bed cover fitment by year

Every steel-bed Sierra 1500 since 1988 takes a Landmark; the 5'8" bed joins in 1999. The Tectonic starts at 2014 on the 5'8" and 6'6", one fit for the 2019 Limited body and one for the new body.

Sierra 1500 tonneau cover questions

What's the best tonneau cover for a GMC Sierra 1500?

Depends on what the Sierra does. A Denali that's in and out of the bed daily wants the Landmark retractable; an AT4 that carries gear on top wants the Tectonic hard tri-fold. Both fit the 5'8" and 6'6" steel beds from 2014 on. Only the Landmark covers the 8-foot bed or a pre-2014 Sierra. Neither touches a CarbonPro bed.

Will a bed cover fit my Sierra 1500 with a bed liner?

Spray-in liners, which most Sierra 1500s have from the dealer, are fine with either cover. A plastic drop-in liner gets trimmed where the Tectonic clamps grip the rail. If you have a drop-in liner and want a Landmark, or a 2019 or newer Denali or AT4 with bed-rail caps, call us at 877-473-7246 or use live chat before you order and we'll check your truck.

Does a tonneau cover work with the Sierra MultiPro tailgate?

Yes. Both the Landmark and the Tectonic work with the MultiPro tailgate, which has been on the Sierra 1500 since 2019. The cover closes against the full tailgate, and the inner gate still drops under it.

Which bed lengths does the Sierra 1500 come in, and how do I measure mine?

Short, standard and long: 5'8", 6'6" and 8'. GMC's short bed is two inches longer than Ford's, so don't order by habit. Tape the inside of the bed from the bulkhead to the closed tailgate: a 2019 or newer Sierra reads roughly 68, 78 or 96 inches.

How long does it take to install a bed cover on a Sierra 1500? Do I have to drill?

Nothing gets drilled. The Tectonic clamps to the Sierra's bed rails in about half an hour. The Landmark takes 2 to 3 hours and clamps on with QuickClamps; 2019 and newer trucks use a 6-inch ramp adjustment bolt in the Landmark kit. The install video for your year is on its year page.

Does it fit the Sierra with the CarbonPro bed, and the 2019 Limited?

CarbonPro, no. The carbon-fiber composite bed offered on 2019 to 2022 Denali and AT4 trucks is not compatible with either cover. Steel-bed Denali, AT4 and Elevation use the standard Sierra cover. The 2019 Sierra 1500 Limited is the old body and uses the 2014 to 2018 fits. Neither cover fits the Sierra EV bed.
