What's the best tonneau cover for a Tacoma?

Most Tacomas are Double Cabs with the 5-foot bed, and they go places: a TRD Off-Road with a week of camp gear, a Trailhunter running fire roads, a daily driver with a mountain bike in the back. The composite bed has deck rails and tie-downs, and the cover has to work with them. The best tonneau cover for a Tacoma on a 5-foot bed is usually the Landmark retractable: it mounts to the deck rails, retracts to give you the whole bed, and quick-releases in 30 seconds.

If you carry gear on top, the Tectonic hard tri-fold carries 250 pounds on top as a Sport, 500 as a Pro or Max. The deck rails come off and it bolts to the factory holes.

A soft cover on a trail truck gets cut by branches and won't lock. Buy aluminum once.

What's the best tonneau cover for a Toyota Tacoma?

A hard aluminum cover: retractable if you open the bed every day and want to keep the deck rails, hard tri-fold if you carry gear on top. Both Peragon covers fit the 2016 and newer Tacoma on the 5-foot bed; Landmark also fits the 6-foot through 2023 and Tectonic fits the 6-foot through 2027. Both are built in Shell Lake, Wisconsin.

Will a bed cover fit my Tacoma with a bed liner or the deck rail system?

The Landmark mounts to the Tacoma's deck rail system on 2016 and newer trucks, so the rails stay. The Tectonic needs the deck rails removed and bolts to the holes already in the bed. The composite bed doesn't take a drop-in liner from the factory; a bed mat is fine.

Does a tonneau cover work with the Tacoma's power tailgate?

Yes. Both covers work with the power-release tailgate on the 2024 and newer Tacoma, and with the standard tailgate on 2016 to 2023 trucks.

Which bed lengths does the Tacoma come in, and how do I measure mine?

Two: 5 feet on the Double Cab and 6 feet on the Access Cab and long-bed Double Cab. Measure inside from the front wall to the inside of the closed tailgate: about 60 inches is the 5-foot, about 72 is the 6-foot. A 1995 to 2004 Tacoma is listed with one 74-inch bed.

How long does it take to install a bed cover on a Tacoma? Do I have to drill?

No drilling on either cover. Tectonic goes on in about 30 minutes: the deck rails come off and the cover bolts to the factory holes.
