Features of the Peragon Truck Bed Cover

Oftentimes we talk about the big features behind our Peragon hard tonneau covers for sale. It is easy to focus on these features, but we believe that real quality is in the details and that the form and function of the Peragon folding truck bed cover comes from the sum of all of these details that we’ve perfected over the last 16 years.

Panel InterlocksPanel Interlocks

Center panel interlocks tie the panels together in the center, greatly improving strength, flatness and stability over time. Our interlock design increases the security and improves the aesthetic of the Peragon tonneau cover.

Sealed Lock Capsealed-lock-cap

A rubber cap over the deadbolt lock seals out the elements, preventing dust and dirt from corroding the lock mechanism and snow and ice from building up inside, preventing use during cold winter conditions.

Steel DeadboltSteel Deadbolt

A robust 3/8″ steel deadbolt and available dual deadbolt system offers significantly improved security.

Improved Quick Release MechanismQuick Release

With a simple spring clip and lever-release gas struts, you can quickly and easily remove the folding truck bed cover. There are no cumbersome push-pins to deal with meaning you can literally remove the retractable truck bed cover in seconds. Really.

Factory-Installed Rail Lip SealFactory-Installed Rail Lip Seal

A re-designed and factory-installed rail lip seal uses either a slide-in channel (pictured) or 3M VHB bonding system. This ensures a tight seal on the truck bed sides and prevents any loss of adhesion over time.

No Ramp CrossbarNo ramp crossbar

Our open-bed design offers you complete flexibility and use of your entire truck bed–there is no crossbar or canister getting in your way. In order to stabilize the panel ramps, we’ve designed a wall stabilizer system that keeps the ramps perfectly in place and enables this open-bed design.

Rear Panel/Tailgate SealRear Panel/Tailgate Seal

The custom-designed rear panel seal is recessed under the “nose” of the aluminum panel, giving it a much cleaner appearance and securing it in place. This design prevents any seal separation with extended use and creates a tight seal with the tailgate of the truck.

Improved Gas SpringsImproved Gas Springs

Improved gas springs apply the perfect amount of pressure to the panels to create a tight seal with the rail seals, while offering easy operation. With balanced gas springs, we’ve made it easier to open the panels as it does not require a great amount of downward force. In addition, our gas springs release at the flip of a lever for quick-releasing the cover in seconds.

Rubber End CapsRubber End Caps

We’ve designed custom fit end caps for a perfectly finished look. With short rubber “skirts,” the end caps make a beautiful transition to the tailgate that is consistent with the fit and finish of your truck.

Hinge and Bearing AssembliesHinge and Bearing Assemblies

All hinge and bearing assemblies are a high quality steel-on-steel mechanism. Heat-treated steel pivot joints between panels greatly increase strength and security.

Roller BearingsRoller Bearings

High quality roller bearings with a black thermoplastic tire enable smooth, quiet operation and improved corrosion resistance.

Re-Engineered Panel SealsRe-Engineered Panel Seals

The re-engineered panel seals use an automotive grade compound with improved geometry for a tighter seal that holds up well over time.

Nylock NutsNylock Nuts

Nylock nuts on all hardware prevent loosening of components throughout the life and extended use of your truck and Peragon bed cover.

Panel BumpersPanel Bumpers

Rubber bumpers between all panels ensure that panels do not rub together or rattle while retracted.

Reinforced Rear Panel

The re-engineered rear panel means added strength. Go ahead and use your folding truck bed cover as a temporary platform while loading and unloading!

Robust Mounting System

A re-designed bracket mounting system creates a stable foundation for the cover that will maintain alignment over time.

    Good Evening,
We just bought a 2012 Ford F-150 with one of your bed covers. I really like it but it appears the gas shocks don’t push up the panel to lock it. Can I order 2 new replacements?

    • Peragon Support

Hello Robert, of course! I tried to look you up in our system, but was unable to find your order with the information in your comment. Could you please email customer service at sales@peragon.com and inquire about the gas shocks? Or alternatively, please provide me with the email address that would have been on your order so that I can look up your information. Thank you!

Can I step on the panels.

    • Peragon Support

      Hi Mike,
The best answer to this question comes from our FAQ section:
The Peragon cover will support up to 50 pounds of concentrated weight like a cooler or tool box. It is engineered to support up to 300 pounds of evenly distributed weight like snow. When driving, there shouldn’t be any weight on the cover. Our solid aluminum design offers robust protection for your cargo. However, it is not designed to walk on or to haul cargo on. Think of our cover just like you would the hood of your truck. The hood is rigid and strong, but you wouldn’t walk on it.

Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

Hello I just bought a new Ford F-150 with a 5.5 ft bed. I wonder if I can use a Du-Ha Humpstor truck box under your cover? And how much space I must leave in the front of the bed for the cover to open. Thank you.

      Hi Ron,

Unfortunately, our cover will not work with the Du-Ha Humpstor truck box. From the looks of it, you’d have a problem with most of the canister style covers out there as well. I can’t say for sure though, as I’m guessing the space in front of the Humpstor probably varies from truck model.
Let us know if you have any other questions – we’ll be happy to help!

Will this cover work with the 2017 Nissan Titan XD’s Utili-track System or would the rails have to be removed?

    Posted October 24, 2017
    • Sales & Support

Hello Chris, Our cover will work with the Utili-Track system, but not all the accessories. In fact, our cover mounts using the track for a no drill installation!

When folded to the front, what is the total depth of the folded part? Seeing if this will fit over our aux fuel tank

    Posted January 20, 2018
    • Sales and Support

To give a more clear answer I would need to know what truck you have.

If you have a 78 inch bed length or 8 ft box then the panels will hang down into the bed roughly 12 inches. If you have a 5’6 – 5’8″ bed then the panels will hang down roughly 11 inches into the bed.

You can measure down off the truck bed rails to get an idea of the space left in the bed.

We typically do not recommend installing with a fuel tank because the panels usually will not clear either the tank or the fill spout.

Can you take the truck through the car wash with this cover installed or would it need to be removed or stowed at the front?
    thanks

You can leave the cover on when going through a car wash–we recommend that you lock it though when going through a wash. Thanks!

I just ordered a 2018 Ford F-150 Super Crew. Is this cover compatible with the Dual Liner truck bed liner?

    Posted March 20, 2018
    • Mike

Hi Jim, yes, it works with DualLiner. There is actually a picture of a Peragon cover with a DualLiner on the Features page under “Compatibility,” though it is hard to see that it is in fact a DualLiner. Some drop in liners require minor modification to fit, but this one should not require anything.

    Hello
One question, the $ 749 cover is the same as the photo? in which color comes from painting for that price and if it comes with the lock included.
    Thank you

    Posted April 16, 2018
    • Mike

The Blue Flame cover in the photo is a Paint Match cover, which is an upgrade. The $749 cover is our Classic Black powder-coated finish.

The cover comes with a single key-locking deadbolt on the driver’s side. We do offer a $29 option to configure your cover with a second passenger side deadbolt as well. Either way though, the cover locks with an included key.

Can I get a extra key, or key blanks for my cover?

    Posted May 10, 2018
    • Mike

Hi Larry, We don’t have key blanks since the lock cylinders come with the keys from the manufacturer. If both keys are lost then the best option is to order a new lock cylinder with keys which is $15 plus shipping. Please contact support@peragon.com or call 877-473-7246 if you’d like to do this. Thanks!

If I order for a 17 black raptor do I need a custom match? Is the standard paint gloss? Is there a shipping delay? Thanks

    Posted May 16, 2018
    • Mike

A 2017 Raptor would be ordered as an F150. That model fits Raptor as well. The Classic Black finish is a satin, so it is in between matte and gloss. Our Classic Black covers ship within a couple days for your model.

Im thinking of getting one of these for my 2017 ran 3500 dually with 8 foot bed can you drive with it open or do you have to take it off I pull a gooseneck trailer quite often but when not towing I want to keep my tools covered and will it slide over my truck box that is lower than the bed rails

    Posted July 22, 2018
    • Mike

Hi Scott, yes you can drive with the cover fully open, retracted to the front of the bed…

Peragon bed covers work with most fifth wheel hitches. A quick confirmation can be obtained by measuring to see if your fifth wheel hitch is at least one inch below the top of the truck bed.

Hello folks. I bought a cover in 2012 for a Ram 1500. I bought a 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie and the cover seems to be off a litte. It is hard to open and close and there is a gap at the top of the back at the tailgate so that water can get in. Any thoughts?

    Posted November 14, 2022
    • Danielle Lagarde

      Hi Ken!

The 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie is in the NEW body style and is just different enough that the 2012 cover will not fit. The 2012 cover would fit the newer Rams in the classic body style. If you’re ready to upgrade make sure to reach out to our support team about a repeat customer discount!

I’ve had aluminum covers in the past, and the Oklahoma sun will make that aluminum melt your skin hot to the touch! Does your cover have any felt or coating to prevent scalding yourself in the summer months?

    Posted June 30, 2023
    • Danielle Lagarde

Our XRP matte black will be slightly cooler to the touch but care should still be taken in those hot summer months.
