Alternate Install Video 5 – Drilling and Mounting L Brackets

We’ll now mark the location for the mounting brackets. Refer to the mounting bracket location page in your installation manual for the specific dimensions for your truck. I’ll measure the approximate location of the mounting bracket from the tailgate and then use a piece of masking tape so that it’s easier to mark this spot for location later. Now I’ll mark the exact location for the mounting bracket from the tailgate. For the up and down location of the mounting bracket refer to your installation manual for specific instructions on your truck. On most installations, the goal is to flush the top edge of the mounting bracket with the top edge of the truck bed. If you have plastic side caps align this edge with the top of the plastic ribs, or if you don’t have plastic side caps you would just align the top edge of the bracket with the top of your metal bed. With the up-and-down location of the mounting bracket, set refer to your installation manual for which mounting hole in the bracket to use. Then mark the location of that hole. With the hole location for the mounting bracket marked double-check behind the truck bed lip to ensure there aren’t any obstructions that would prevent you from getting a washer and nut on the backside. If needed you can move the hole location slightly to the back or front to clear any obstructions. If you have any questions on this step please give us a call. We’ll be happy to help. Repeat the process for the front mounting brackets referencing your installation manual for the exact location on your truck. Then you’re ready to drill the mounting holes. Now that we have the mounting holes drilled we can attach our mounting brackets. The angle of the lip on the inside of the truck bed may vary from one truck to another. So, after attaching your mounting brackets take a look at the horizontal leg to make sure that it’s level. If needed use pliers to bend it to the level position.
