Tournament #1 is now in the books for the Bass Fishing League (BFL) Buckeye division at Grand Lake St. Marys. Overall, it wasn’t the start I was hoping for to kick off the season. However, there were some positives taken away today. I finished the tournament with 6.1 lbs landing 3 keeper bass. I placed 33rd out of 106 boats.
It was a cloudy and rainy day making it challenging to visually see any bass up in the shallows. I caught my first fish within 5 minutes of the tournament starting, but had a long drought with no more fish until nearly the end of the tournament. With one hour remaining, I decided to try one last spot heading back towards the check in point. I was able to land 2 nice bass in the last few minutes of the tournament to improve my position dramatically. Although I threw a variety of lures today, all 3 keepers came on a black and blue jig. This tournament is one of the closest tournaments to my home and it was great to see all of my family and friends that came to the weigh in.
I want thank my family and core sponsors; Bass Pro Shops, Nitro Boats, Mercury Engines and Peragon Truck Bed Covers who help make all this possible. My next tournament will be the BFL Hoosier division at Patoka Lake on May 30. I am looking forward to the tournaments ahead!
